ADAS Requirements Reference

Toyota ADAS Calibration Requirements

Toyota requires its Toyota Safety Sense systems to be rescanned and recalibrated after collision repair, glass work, wheel alignment, and sensor or bumper service — each to a documented OEM procedure. Level 5 Solutions has performed thousands of Toyota calibrations to those specs.

What Toyota requires — by repair

When Toyota requires ADAS recalibration

Wheel alignment & suspension

  • After a wheel alignment or chassis-component R&R, a zero point calibration of the yaw-rate and steering-angle sensor is required.Source: Toyota — T-SB-0020-08, "Zero Point Calibration After Wheel Alignment Adjustment" (Mar 2008)

Bumper, grille & exterior R&R

  • Refinishing a bumper over a 77 GHz radar requires stripping to bare substrate, OE-spec coat counts, no aluminum-pigment paint over the radar zone, and a post-repair 'check reflection power' self-diagnosis.Source: Toyota — CRIB #201, "Bumper Repair Precautions for 77 GHz Radar" (Mar 2023)

Sensor, camera & radar R&R

  • Calibrating the forward camera, front millimeter-wave radar, or blind-spot monitor requires first establishing an accurate vehicle centerline before any target is placed.Source: Toyota — T-TT-0503-18, "Target Placement for TSS and BSM Calibration" (Sep 2019)

Pre- & post-repair scanning

  • Toyota directs a pre- and post-repair Health Check diagnostic scan on every collision-damaged vehicle; many fault codes never light the dash, and a scan tool is the only way to find and document them.Source: Toyota — CRIB #191, "Scanning for Electrical System Faults" (Rev. Jul 2021)

Frequently asked

Toyota ADAS, answered.

Does Toyota require a scan after a collision?
Yes — Toyota calls for a Health Check diagnostic scan both before and after repair on collision-damaged vehicles, since many codes never illuminate a warning light.

Can a Toyota bumper be refinished over the radar?
Only by following Toyota's 77 GHz precautions — bare-substrate prep, OE coat counts, no metallic paint over the radar zone, and a post-repair self-diagnosis.
